I. 하나님은 섭리를 통해 어떻게 일하시는가?

 

하나님은 당신의 섭리를 다양한 방식을 통해 이루어 가시며, 이는 종종 '1차 원인 (Primary Cause)'과 '2차 원인 (Secondary Causes)'의 관계를 통해 설명됨. 하나님은 1차 원인이시며, 피조물과 그들의 행동은 2차 원인임.

 

1. 일반 섭리 (General Providence) – 자연 법칙과 질서를 통한 보존:
   • 하나님은 피조 세계에 부여하신 자연 법칙과 질서를 통해 세상 만물을 보존하고 다스리심 (시편 104편). 해가 뜨고 지며, 비가 내리고, 식물이 자라는 등 자연의 모든 과정은 하나님의 지속적인 섭리 아래 있음 (마태복음 5:45). 이는 모든 피조물에게 미치는 하나님의 일반적인 돌봄임.
2. 특별 섭리 (Special Providence) – 인간의 자유로운 선택과 행위를 통한 통치:
   • 하나님은 인간에게 주신 자유 의지와 능력을 통해서도 당신의 섭리를 이루어 가심.
   • 인간은 자신의 선택과 의지대로 행하지만, 하나님은 그 모든 것을 당신의 영원한 계획과 목적에 맞게 조율하고 사용하심 (잠언 16:33, 예레미야 10:23).
   • 특히 개혁주의는 하나님이 인간의 죄악된 선택까지도 허용하시고 그것을 사용하시어 더 큰 선을 이루실 수 있음을 강조함 (요셉의 이야기, 예수님의 십자가 사건).
   • 이는 하나님이 죄의 조성자가 아니시면서도, 죄를 포함한 모든 것을 통치하신다는 신비로운 진리임.
3. 기적과 비정상적인 개입을 통한 섭리 (Extraordinary/Miraculous Providence):
   • 때로는 자연 법칙을 초월하는 기적이나 직접적인 개입을 통해 당신의 섭리를 나타내심 (홍해를 가르거나, 병을 고치고, 죽은 자를 살리시는 등).
   • 이러한 기적들은 하나님의 주권과 능력을 더욱 분명히 드러내고, 그분의 구원 계획을 진행시킴.
4. 성령의 감동과 인도하심을 통한 섭리:
   • 하나님은 특별히 성령을 통해 신자들의 마음을 감동시키고, 지혜를 주시며, 올바른 길로 인도하심 (빌립보서 2:13, 로마서 8:14).
   • 이는 신자들이 하나님의 뜻을 분별하고 그분께 순종하도록 돕는 내적인 역사이며, 선교와 복음 전파를 위한 계획 속에서도 명확히 드러남 (사도행전 16:6-10).
5. 역사적 사건과 국가의 통치를 통한 섭리:
   • 하나님은 세상 국가들의 흥망성쇠와 역사적 사건들을 당신의 계획 아래 통치하심 (다니엘 2:21).
   • 이스라엘의 역사, 제국의 흥망성쇠 등은 모두 하나님의 구속사적 섭리 안에 있었음.

결론적으로, 하나님의 섭리는 우리 삶의 모든 순간, 세상의 모든 역사 속에서 하나님의 주권적인 통치와 세밀한 돌보심이 작용하고 있다는 심오한 진리임.

 

이는 신자로 하여금 혼돈 속에서도 평안을 찾고, 삶의 의미를 발견하며, 전적으로 하나님을 신뢰하고 그분의 영광을 위해 살아가도록 이끄는 강력한 신앙의 근거임.

God works through various means to accomplish His providence:

1. General Providence through Natural Laws:
   • Just as the sun and rain fall on both the righteous and the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45), God sustains and cares for the entire world through natural laws and order. This is God's continuous care that extends to all creation.
2. Providence through Free Human Choices and Actions (Concurrence with Human Actions):
   • God has given humans free will, yet at the same time, He accomplishes His purposes within human choices and actions, even through sinful human choices. Like the case of Joseph's brothers or those who crucified Jesus, humans act according to their own will, but God orchestrates all these actions to fit His purposes. This is a mysterious area where God is not the author of sin yet controls all things, including sin (Acts 2:23).
3. Special Providence through Miracles and Direct Intervention:
   • Sometimes, God manifests His providence through miracles or direct interventions that transcend natural laws. Examples include parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14) or raising the dead (John 11). These special interventions clearly demonstrate God's sovereignty and power.
4. Providence through the Holy Spirit's Conviction and Guidance:
   • Especially through the Holy Spirit, God moves the hearts of believers, grants wisdom, and guides them on the right path (Philippians 2:13). Paul being prevented from going to Asia and instead being led to Macedonia is an example. This is an internal work that helps believers discern God's will and obey Him.
5. Providence through Historical Events and the Rise and Fall of Nations:
   • God governs the rise and fall of nations and historical events under His plan (Daniel 2:21, 4:17). The Babylonian captivity and return of Israel, and the formation of the Roman Empire, were all part of God's redemptive providence.

In conclusion, God's providence is the profound truth that God's sovereign governance and care are at work in every moment of our lives and throughout all of world history. This provides a strong foundation for faith, enabling us to find peace amidst chaos, discover meaning in life, and wholeheartedly trust God and live for His glory.
